Radio Glamorgan is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers and as such needs to raise funds to continue to provide its unique service - valued by so many.  We rely upon donations and fundraising events throughout the year in order to deliver a high quality bedside entertainment service to the patients, visitors, medical staff and other employees of the University Hospital of Wales.

Below are some examples of the way in which Radio Glamorgan's volunteers have helped raise essential funds for the Station – there are however, many ways in which you can help. You may wish to make a donation and / or provide a prize for a competition.  If you run a business you could also sponsor a weekly programme in our broadcast schedule (link to: Programme Sponsorship [page 3]).  

 

You could even choose Radio Glamorgan as the beneficiary of fundraising events such as running a Marathon.  It is difficult to stress how important such donations are to keeping the station in operation and how much they are appreciated by the station’s audience.

Sponsorship is an ideal way to increase awareness of your brand.  It enables companies to affiliate with a good cause while accessing a large target audience.

 

In return for an agreed donation, Radio Glamorgan will play sponsor acknowledgements on air and provide visibility on our website and in promotional material.

Examples of previous events:  Outside Broadcasts

 

Radio Glamorgan (RG) is frequently out and about at events (indoors and outdoors!).  We can provide a full entertainment and public announcement service at fetes and similar events.  Using the fully self contained outside broadcast unit enables us to raise awareness of the station, and encourage people to tune in to us when in hospital.  Organisers feel that our attendance brings added value to their events, and many make a contribution to RG in recognition of our efforts.  If you know of any local events then please spread the word - from fun runs and birthday parties to award ceremonies and weddings, no event is too big or too small.

Marathon Broadcasts

Marathon Broadcasts are great fun and involve RG’s volunteers presenting non-stop shows in exchange for sponsorship.  Last year’s event was a 40hr broadcast in celebration of the station’s 40th birthday.  Broadcasts are usually based on a theme, for example ‘Alphabet Artist’ or ‘The Decades of RG’, and are both tiring and rewarding in equal measure!

 

Bucket collections and supermarket bag packs

These types of events give us valuable exposure and income.  We always try to have an information stand to promote the radio station and the wider benefits of volunteering.  So far the collections have been at large supermarkets.  It’s a good opportunity for us to meet past / future listeners and chat to them about the important service we provide.

 

Special events

Over the past few years Radio Glamorgan has been really fortunate to see some extremely dedicated members volunteer their services to organise one off events for the station.

 

These events have included:

Pop Quiz Night - Teams paid to compete to be the No.1 authority on all things pop.

Balloon Race - 500 balloons were sold and released in spectacular fashion. The owner of the balloon that travelled the furthest won a prize, as did the person who posted back the winning balloon ticket.

Music Events – Gigs to promote new and up-coming bands were organised and profits raised donated to RG.

Signed Cardiff City Football - A football signed by the whole Cardiff City football team was auctioned.

Quiz Sheet Competition – Friends, family and the general public were invited to buy quiz sheets, which were an amalgamation of questions contributed by a number of RG Members, on topics from British Comedy to Sport. The person with the most correct answers won a prize.

 

Sponsored events

A few of our members and member’s friends have taken part in events where they can raise sponsorship – they have been kind enough to donate funds raised to RG.  Events have included sponsored canoeing adventures, fun runs and half marathons.

Social evenings

RG volunteers often get together as a group and organise social events, but we never miss the opportunity to raise money!  RG members, their friends and family get together for things like quizzes and 10 pin bowling and raise cash for the station in the process.
