Alzheimer’s Research UK, which focuses specifically on biomedical research, diagnostics, prevention and finding a cure for dementia, is running a campaign to help us all look after our brains better and anyone with access to the internet is invited to take part in its Think Brain Health check-in.
We paid tribute to Bonnie Tyler who died in Portugal last month. Singer, songwriter and media man extraordinaire Mal Pope was a good friend of Bonnie’s and he let us know what the weekend of tributes to her consisted of. I’m grateful to him for doing just that, because I know it will have been a very difficult time for him personally, as well as a huge loss to Swansea and the rest of the music-loving community worldwide.
And, there has been a change to hospital visiting hours: From Monday 17th August 2026, patients at University Hospital of Wales, University Hospital Llandough, St David’s Hospital and Barry Hospital can enjoy visits from up to two people at a time between an extended timeframe of 11am- 9pm. Though do bear in mind that every patient’s situation is unique, and where additional support is needed, healthcare teams can agree personalised attendance plans to ensure those who matter most can continue to be involved in their loved one’s care. However, some specialist areas, such as Maternity and Critical Care, will have their own local guidance in place.
