In her monthly chat with RG Presenter Robert Darke, Maria Battle, Chair of the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, drew the listeners attention to a new monthly scheme the Health Board have launched in partnership with the South Wales Echo and Park Plaza that allows members of the public who have had recent contact with the NHS to nominate any member of staff for recognition. Each month the winner can enjoy a free spa treatment or afternoon tea for two at the Park Plaza.

Maria said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the hard work of our colleagues who day-in and day-out care for people in hospitals, GP and dental practices, and throughout the community we serve.

“Many of them have won national, and even international awards, recognising their skill, dedication and compassion in helping others and keeping them well.

“But hearing directly from patients and relatives makes such a difference. It’s special and means a lot to them.

“We have many letters each week from members of the public so I know how much all staff value the kind words, appreciation and gratitude for the care and support they provide. It really boosts morale in pressurised times.

“I would like to thank the South Wales Echo and the Park Plaza for giving the public we serve the chance to say thank you in such a powerful and meaningful way.”

Please nominate your Health Hero today and help us get them the public recognition they thoroughly deserve.
