Back in December 1984, two acclaimed songwriters constructed a major Supergroup with the intention of raising money for the famine outbreak in Africa during the mid-1980’s. This supergroup was called Band Aid and with the single “Do They Know its Christmas Time” saw it become the fastest selling single in UK Chart History.
Fast Forward 7 months and on July 13 th, 1985, 72,000 people gathered in London and 90,000 in Philadelphia to see one of the biggest music based benefit concerts of all time. Despite fears and concerns that the concert may not go ahead or be successful, over 2 billion people tuned in from over 150 nations and raised Trillions for famine in Africa – Live Aid remains to this day one of the most recognisable and important Benefit concerts of all time.
